Life at Holy Cross Vol. 1- Introduction
Holy Cross in South City St. Louis is where I go to church. It's a wonderful small congregation that worships in an old historic building.
I'm hoping to tell Holy Cross's story one post at a time. There's so much beauty there and in a world that isn't always so beautiful, I think that needs to be shared. So here she is. I'm hoping to post new stories every 1 to 2 months. Maybe it will be more often, depending on Holy Cross's happenings. I guess we'll see.
Lenten midweek 2
Sometimes when we have midweek services (Advent and Lent) we hold them in our gallery space in Intersect Arts Center (which I'm sure I'll talk about more). We eat our meal together in one part of the gallery, and then move to another part to have our service. This week we read from John 15 about God as the vinedresser. Pr. Paul (my husband) preached about how God takes us, messy as we are, and prunes us. This is hard sometimes. We suffer in this life, sometimes very deeply. But if we abide with Jesus, who first suffered for us, these things things don't break us, not truly. God can take even our worst suffering and us it to shape (prune) us. And in the end, we have life with him. Not even suffering and death can change that.
A field trip
Over at Intersect (I'll get to that, I promise!) a small school meets. They decided to take a little field trip over to see the church and I decided to go with them. We climbed into the organ (maybe don't tell our organist that) and saw a little bit of the belfry.
Early spring in the gardens
Another neat thing about Holy Cross is her gardens. The gardens have just gained Level I arboretum status. We have a little free library, a prayer box, and a blessing box where our neighbors can find items they might need. Right now just the first brave blooms are emerging.
