Life at Holy Cross Vol. 4- Easter

April 23, 2025 Holy Cross, LCMS Churches, Lutheran Churches, Missouri Churches, St. Louis Churches

Easter at Holy Cross was everything that Easter should be; filled with fellowship, beautiful music, fun outfits, and most of all, comfort and celebration in Jesus.

We started the morning with a packed Easter breakfast in the fellowship hall. I was too busy chatting and eating everyone's incredible food that I took no photos.

Our service began with a procession of the lilies. All the women carried a lily to the chancel and set them down as a tribute and remembrance to the women that Jesus met at the tomb right after His resurrection. The lilies were followed by the crucifix and our new baptismal banner.

In his sermon, Pastor Bob talked about the new baptismal banner that was introduced. Sara Nordling made this one for us, too. We commissioned her to make this one for us so we get to keep it. The other pieces were borrowed and have to go back home but this one gets to stay with us and I'm so happy it does. Our worship folder did a good job explaining the 6-sided banner. It talked about how our new life in Christ began at our baptism. In JOhn 3 jesus says to Nicodemus, "the wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where is it going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit." Our new banner represents those three elements: water, breath, and spirit. All three twist, turn, and swirl throughout the banner. The banner hangs at eye level and I loved being able to get very close to it and examine its texture.

During the children's sermon Pastor Bob moved the banner over each child, reminding them that through baptism, God ha made each of them one of His own and now the resurrection that we celebrate is also claimed for each one of us baptized into Christ.

After the service we made sure to get a photo of all the ladies who wore hats. Last year there were 3 of us but this year there were over 13! I'm excited to see this new tradition grow. For anyone who didn't own a hat, they were able to borrow one so that they could participate.

It was a beautiful day with beautiful people. The kids couldn't hunt for Easter eggs outside because it was too wet but we all just made the most of it and had a blast anyway because that's just what we do as a community united in God's love.
